omaliland National Human Rights Commission is an independent government institution and a Human Rights organization legally established at the end of 2005 in with presidential degree and the endorsement of  the upper and lower house of the parliament the commission has a full mandate to promoting and protecting human rights in Somaliland.

 

 The commission has successfully achieved in implementing a variety of Human Rights activities in facilitating besides awareness rising for child rights (juvenile Rights) prisoner’s rights, gender women rights, supporting and creating convenient circumstances for reintegration of returnees, protecting refugee rights, mixed migrants and population movements. The commission has lead chairing role of the inter-ministerial mixed migration taskforce (MMTF).

 

 The commission has liaised with international Human Rights agencies including UN agencies and International NGO, s operating in Somaliland to create good operation situations for both those local authorities and the civil society in Somaliland.

  

Somaliland National Human Rights Commission (SLNHRC) works on a wide range of areas for the protection and promotion of Human Rights in general. Moreover, the Commission plays crucial role in the Mixed Migration Task Force (MMTF) initiative on prevention and reduction of MM phenomena, by raising mass awareness while implementing a significant number of Training workshops through out the country, especially in the most effected locations.

 

Last year, SLNHRC had implemented several workshops with support from IOM in Tog-dheer and Awdal regions of Somaliland. , Furthermore, the H/Rs commission provided audio-visual CDs (documentary film) that shows the danger of crossing the red sea with the Youth Centers and the local media. Yet, people who are involved in the MM ordeal are increasing on a daily basis due to the smuggling season
